What does a head coach for the NFL really do anyway?

If there's an offensive coordinator for the offense, a defensive coordinator for the defense. A QB coach, a line backer coach, a running back coach, and line coach, and a special teams coach, what does the head coach really do anyway? Sometimes I see some headcoach that doesnt even wear a head set.|||It varies from team to team. In most cases, the head coach favors one side of the ball. I know with the Saints, the head coach Sean Payton is an offensive guru, so he calls the plays, not the offensive coordinator. In that case the coordinator is in charge of player packages and keeping a line of communication over with the QB. Kind of a middleman of sorts. On other teams the coordinators have more authority and call the plays. If a coach is more offensive oriented, he will usually let the defensive coodinator call the plays. I don't know of any coaches that call both offensive and defensive plays.

A head coach has to manage 53 players, most of whom have egos to varying degrees. There's no way he could do that all on his own. Coordinators and position coaches are there for him to delegate responsiblities to. Coaching an NFL team is the equivalent of running a multi-million dollar company, billion-dollar company in the case of the Dallas Cowboys. That's a lot of pressure and it takes a special kind of person to work and succeed under those circumstances.|||He has to coordinate everything. The other coaches give him the information and he helps the QB call the plays.|||You are ignorant.|||If you need to ask you wont get it.|||make tons of money.

just like you need a president of a company, you need a head coach to keep the other coaches on track and in line. plus they help to have a great relationship with the QB which makes it easier for the QB to make better plays and decisions.

ask favre|||The head coach is a lot of things depending on the organization. Some head coaches are also general managers. Some make personnel decisions. Some just coach, make game plans, and manage the other asst. coaches.

But you probably need to learn a little more about the NFL.
